Summer Pasta

After a jaunt to the farmer's market last weekend, I ended up buying gluton free lemon rosemary pasta, completely by accident. Don't ask me how I missed the enormous sign that read "gluton free" but it ended up being a very pleasant surprise. The pasta was fresh and flavorful and cooked in 3 minutes. If you hadn't of told me I would have honestly never known. The sauce I made was simple and light and perfect for a hot summer evening; garlic, lemon (juice and zest), white wine, parmesan, truffle salt, tomato and onion, topped with fresh basil.

Diamond Rings and Murphy Beds

Yep, it's a random sort of day in my brain. I friend is moving to the hill and I'm flattered that he wants me to help with a little interior love, part of which involves a Murphy bed! Very cool. A few other good friends of our announced their engagement today, so naturally I have weddings on the brain. I'm also a little short on sleep and am feeling alike a bit of a loose cannon, so there you have it.

Gold Rush

I used to not be fond of gold, but lately I've been loving it, and eyeing it everywhere I go. These two particularly caught my eye. The ring I may have to just buy for myself.. we'll call it a late birthday present. And the dress? Let's just say I'm getting excited for New Years.

Mr and Mrs Globe Trot

There is a blog I've been following for quite some time now that is truly the essence of one of my life dreams. To travel for 6 months (at least) with my love, and take beautiful pictures along the way. This couple, is doing just that. They are both photographers, so naturally their pictures are amazing, and after getting hitched they hit the road for a trip around the world. Their most recent travels have brought them to Thailand, and looking at the images of Bangkok took me back and brought a flutter to my heart. As many know, I'm absolutely in love with that country, and I cannot wait to bring Will there and share my love. If you have a moment, or simply want a break from reality, I highly recommend you check out their blog, and slip into the travel-swoon I've been in for quite some time.

The week is over, and holy shit am I happy. That was a long one...

Slow Down!

Last I checked Summer started here about a month ago, so I do not appreciate the fact that I'm working on a ski ad for a client and I've gotten yet another "fall fashion" catalogue in the mail. Slow down people, I still got sun bathin' to do.

Maxi Dress

Ok, I finally got a long dress like this from H&M, but it's black and sort of somber looking, not really what I was going for. This gal makes me want to continue a hunt for a colorful one. Ho-hum, looks like I need to go shopping... again.

Momma's Got A New Rug

That sounds a little odd now that I think about it. But it's true, I ordered a new rug for the new place, and I'm pretty jazzed about it.

Inspiring Before and After

I have a dream house. In my head. That dream house will be amazing, but at first it's going to be a piece. I'm a DIYer at heart and can't wait until I can buy a house with ugly carpets and grandma cabinets so I can rip them out and make it my own. Don't get me wrong I'm sure it'll be way more work than I can possibly imagine, and I'll probably regret the decision from time to time, but it's still going to happen, just try and stop me. A great place to find inspiration for this sort of thing is D*S's before and after column. This particular one I found today sort of blew me away. This isn't a "we painted the walls and replaces the faucet" before and after, this is an intense (and expensive) "we changed absolutely everything" one, and I love it. Some day...

House Industries Tour

In case you weren't drooling over House Industries enough already, here are a few shots of their studio space, and founder Andy Cruz's home. I stumbled upon this article this morning, and it's really inspiring to learn about the history and passion behind a great company. It's awesome to peer into a designers brain and learn what inspires them, and with owner Andy Cruz his influences surround him, including a wall of tiki men.

There is an ice cream shop below my office and it's making me drool.

Stumptown Stubbies

I need to get my hands on one of these bad boys. Not only do I have a mild obsession with cold brew in the summer, but the bottles are well designed. Win-win? I think so.

Childhood Summer

I stumbled upon this image today and it reminded me of the popsicles my Mom used to make us in the summer when we were kids. As many of you know, my mom is a junk food nazi and mere mention of Frosted Flakes would send her into a tantrum. Because of that, there were no Otter-pops in our freezer, but homemade fruit bars. If you had asked me  then I would have said it was torture, but now I see it was love.

This recipe is a bit different from hers, and yes sorry Mom, there is sugar added, but damn they sound good.

1 cup raspberries
1 cup blackberries
1 cup sliced strawberries
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup water
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons finely minced fresh mint
Combine raspberries, blackberries and sliced strawberries with the lemon juice and mint in a mixing bowl. Mash the berries a bit with the back of a large wooden spoon. Let this mixture sit for about a half hour to macerate.
Meanwhile, combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan and simmer until the sugar is dissolved. Let cool for about five minutes, then combine with the berry mixture.
Using a glass measuring cup with a spout, carefully pour the berry mixture into your popsicle molds.
Freeze for six hours. If your popsicles stick to the molds, hold them under warm running water to loosen.

Moe's Debut

There is a blog my friend Kim started, and it's hilarious. You should check it out because Moe made his debut today, and I'm sure to be getting phone calls from agents all day, wanting to sign him as the next Pedigree dog. You can say you knew him back when he was humble, think about it.

Another thing I just might need for the new place.

Baby, We're Movin' On Up

Will and I decided to move on up to the 3rd floor of our building and as you can imagine I'm pretty jazzed to decorate. I was getting the itch to move things around in our current place but was running out room/ideas, so now I get to start over from scratch! At first the all white walls were intimidating me, but after hunting around in Rue's gallery, I'm thinking it might actually be sort of fun to decorate around. Adding pops of color to a black and white space has always been a favorite of mine, and adding booze to a living room is always a good idea in my book.

Simple. Genius. Will be making it's debut in a cocktail soon, this I can promise.

B E A C H • E V E N I N G

Seattle doesn't have much for beaches, but we make it work. The sun is shining and I'm about an hour away from being a very happy lady. Cheers!

Design Love : Lava Films

I stumbled upon an identity of a film company in Norway today and it kinda blew my mind. So simply genius, it's the sort of stuff they taught you in my very swiss-oriented design school. The concept behind the identity is "inspired by natural disasters, such as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. During an earthquake, solid objects will divide and move to random positions. This has been the basis for the development of our solution." It sort of took me back in a way, and reminded me of the simple genius that is great design.
