Last night Will and worked out a rough plan of how long it would take to save enough money to put a down payment on a house. This is not something that's going to happen this year, or next for that matter, but talking about it, and making plans, is the first step. I've been dreaming of a lot lately, and doing a little financial planning makes me feel like I'm one step closer to the dream being a reality. Then this morning, I got a call from our landlord saying they will be destroying an entire wall in the kitchen this morning to fix a plumbing issue. I suppose this is ironic, as I dream of revamping a kitchen, yet I'm annoyed that I have to live in a construction zone for the next few days. It'll be a good test I suppose, although having absolutely no control over what's happening is slightly annoying. Maybe they'll replace our gross sink and Formica countertops while they're in there... one can dream, right?

felix riebl
I love the identity system of Felix Riebl by Motherbird, a creative firm out of Melbourne. The hand drawn icons, simple type and stylized photography are right up my alley.

in the bedroom
I think I've finally reached a point where I'm somewhat happy with our bedroom, or at least as happy as I'm going to get without painting. I struggled with what to put above our bed in place of a headboard for a while, and finally I decided to give the giant photo idea a try. This is actually quite easy to do, and if you're into the grainy black and white feel, you're in luck. You can blow any image up to 48" wide (and really as long as you want) at Kinkos for $9. It's printed on a plotter, so it's on pretty thin paper, but when hanging up, you don't really notice. And for just 9 bucks, you can print a few and decide when you get home which you want to hang. Will took this photo at Stevens Pass a few years ago, and I've been wanting to do something with for a while, and I'm pleased with the result. Now if only that damn outlet strip wasn't running down the wall behind it... erg.

vintage motel postcards
How great are these? Makes me want to go back in time and hang by the pool in my one-piece.

time out
Rushing around this morning I stopped for a moment and took a photo. It's nice to do once in a while.

black + white + types
There's a new project brewin' that I'm so so excited about, I can't wait until it starts and I can share everything. In the meantime, I've been pinning away inspiration, many of which has been these beautiful examples of monochromatic typography, which will definitely be playing into the project somehow.

this weekend
This weekend was a mix bag of emotions. It started so slow and stress free, was horribly heart wrenching, and ended happy. I need a weekend to unwind from my weekend. Here are pics from my train ride to Bellingham, which was really quite nice.

au yeah!
I was browsing through Oh Beautiful Beer for some inspiration and came across the labels of Au Yeah! and thought they were awesome, totally original, with a bit of Fear and Loathing style typography. I also really like the subtle color palate and integration of the photograph.

kinfolk
So I'm very late to jump on the Kinfolk wagon, but better late than never! Kinfolk is a magazine (they also have a great blog!) created by a community of artists "with a shared interest in small gatherings". I absolutely love the concept, and flipping through their gallery for 30 seconds made me fall in love. The photography is amazing, and I cannot wait to dig into the ipad version of the magazine, which I entend to purchase the moment I get home today. I feel a little guilty not buying the print version, as I'm such an advocate for the print world, but it is substantially less expensive. Here are a few shots from vo. 1.

I love the simplicity of these photos, from the Studie Drei and Studie Zwell series by Matthias Heidrich. The color palats are also beautiful, and very inspiring.

belize
Our final stop on our trip was to Belize, specifically in Caye Caulker, where we stayed for a few nights before heading out on our sailing trip, down the coast.
utila
A small backpacker island off the coast of Honduras where we dove and hung out in hammocks for about a week.

home again, home again
Will and I got home last night at about 2am after a very long day of travel. I started editing my photos this morning and have a million to put up. Our last few days we sailed down the coast of Belize and I wanted to at least get a a few shots up from that. It was all around a great adventure, and regardless of a bit of a weather snafu (like camping in a tropical storm with thunder and lightening), we had a great time. We snorkeled, spear fished, camped on a deserted-ish island, and mowed down lobster. If you find yourself on Caye Caulker looking for an adventure I would highly recommend Ragamuffin Tours, just check the weather first.
