The 'Lil Trike
I spent many a summer cruisin' around the yard in this bad boy, so it brought a smile to my face to see it in my inbox this afternoon. Thanks Dad!

The toy camera experiment
For Christmas Will got me a Diana Mini, which I have been honestly struggling to make to work. The first roll was a complete flop, and the second, well, let's just say it was a vast improvement and I only got about 6 pictures out of a roll of 36. None the less, the ones that did work are pretty cool, and I'm determined to continue the challenge of figuring out a technology that is older than I am.
A final note: Google spellchecker recognizes the word "photoshopped", that should tell you something.
It is, if anything, a note on how today's technology can make almost anybody relatively good at something that at one point took a lot of dedication and skill. Photography is the perfect example. I can shoot something with my digital nikon, perhaps photoshop it a bit and wham, it's an amazing picture that looks like I caught the light just right, and knew exactly what shutter speed would produce such a gem. I know this is pessimistic, but I can't help but feel we're cheating a little. Not that I'm not guilty of it by the way, I think these pictures prove that. I just find it funny that in this day in age, with all the technology that surrounds me, I am drawn to take pictures on a little plastic camera, taking time, money, and much frustration to produce something that would take about 30 seconds with a digital camera and a computer.

Today
4 years ago today I had a cold. It was a Thursday night, I was at work waiting tables and I was miserable. I came home to can of chicken noodle soup, and flowers. I was stubborn, but so were you, and 4 years later I'm at work thinking about how happy I am that you wouldn't take for no for an answer. So happy to get home from work everyday and see your pretty face. You're the crackle to my pop babe, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Today is valentines day, but I don't feel like I need to celebrate because the world does, I want to celebrate because you are rad, and you mean the world to me. Thanks for being so damn wonderful :)

Crab Salad
Will brought home a cooked crab from his parents the other night (I know right, crab from somewhere other than my parents...weird) and we had ourselves a mighty crab salad. It was one of those meals that you could eat and eat until you're in a food coma it was so good, and really simple to make. Just a cooked crab, avocado, corn, black beans, onion, lime and ranch. I was weary of the ranch at first, but not only does a little go a long way, but I forgot just how damn good ranch is.

Mini Before & After
As much charm as our apartment has, there is no getting around the fact that the bathroom is ugly. The walls are yellow, and the floors have been painted grey, over the hardwood. Now I love grey, and I love yellow accents, but the two together in one room covering all surfaces make for a strange glow that isn't particularly flattering. We've been told we could paint "light colors" and all I can think to do is paint it off white, like the rest of the apartment, but the through of trying to paint around a claw foot tub sounds like too much work for white paint. So, I decided I could at least give the bathroom a little love by freshening up the shelf and mirror and doing a little organizing.
I found this mirror at the Seattle Trading Post, one of my favorite little second hand stores. It's right down the street and every time I go there I find something I love. Although the old gold is sort of fun, the last thing the bathroom needed was more yellowish, so it got a few coats of paint.

Will's Pulled Pork Deliciousness
Alright this is a week late, but I have a picture of it so I might as well post it. Will made pulled pork sliders last week for the Husky basketball game, and it was amazing how simple and delicious it was. He put a 3 pound pork shoulder in the crock-pot with onions, garlic, fat tire, jalapenos, and Anaheim peppers, and let it work it's magic for about 7 hours. When the meat was ready, he pulled it off the bone (or it slid off rather), strained the liquid and added BBQ sauce. I made coleslaw, adding sour cream, cilantro, red onion, garlic and jalapeno to a pre-shredded cabbage/carrot mix. Which by the way, is totally worth it. Not that I don't admire those who buy 2 types of cabbage and shred it, and julien carrots but come on, why?
Anyway, the crock-pot continues to impress, now on to superbowl grub.
The Emergency Cocktail Station
My coworker introduced me to the wonders of Urbancase today, an awesome furniture design build firm in Georgetown, and I'm in love. What's so amazing about the work they do it how simple it is. It's the kind of work I really respect, the clean edited pieces that are dramatically understated, and simply gorgeous. A perfect example of this? Why the Emergency Cocktail Station of course!
The simple white box could sit in any room so nondescript, you wouldn't even think twice about it. Then, when the "man I could really go for a gin and tonic" thought crosses your mind, bam! That discreet beautiful white cube on the wall provides. Love it.

New fun design site
I have soooo many fun things/projects/amazing food to blog about, it's making me sad I haven't had a chance to yet. And yet, this isn't one of them. This is post about an awesome design blog I found the other day that I would say is more than share worthy. Aside from generally loving just about every image Design Crisis posts, they have a very engaging, personable tone, which I find rare in the blog realm. They're funny and sometimes crude, to the extent that I actually thought it was written by a male and not two females, which is pretty rad if you ask me. Anyway if you're in the mood to surf through interior design, the awesome, the strange, and the beautiful, check them out!
