Spring Has Sprung! Kind of...

I know it's just a teaser, what with the beautiful weather and buds popping up, but I'm so excited about the cherry blossoms I had to take some pictures. I never realized how many cherry blossoms were in a 4 block radius of my house. It's makes me very happy.

Weekly Design Love: The Stendig Calendar

I've seen this on numerous design blogs and finally bought one, and I love it! Pair with my screen saver (oh and my amazing new imac) and you're in design nerd heaven. And it's somewhat practical! How you ask?? It doubled as wrapping paper when the month is over. booh-ya.

The Sustainable BLT

For Will's birthday I made BLTs and yam fries, and managed to get all the ingredients at either local farmers markets (or rising sun in this case) and a great little butcher shop that just opened in my neighborhood, Bill the Butcher. The bacon was amazing, and of course locally sourced, with a great focus on sustainability, and not wasting any parts of the animal. I love that if there is one thing popping up more and more in Seattle its places to buy local/organic/sustainable, and contrary to popular belief, it doesn't have to cost a lot. Sure, if you did all that shopping at PCC you would drown in organic debt, but going to places like famers markets are surprisingly cheap.

Not to say I don't appreciate being able to get any vegetable year round, but I think there is something to be said about living off of what is locally available, even if that means not getting squash in June. So I say, if you have the choice, which you pretty much always do, skip safeway and head to the farmers market, and you not only support the little guy, but you might learn something too.

V-Day

As a last minute decision Will and I decided to skip town and go to Shelton for Valentine's Day. We played on the beach, ate an amazing dinner and tried not to flip the row boat as we watched the sunset. All in all, a pretty damn good Valentine's Day if I do say so myself.
